Does hypnosis to quit smoking really work?

We all know that smoking is a harmful habit that affects millions of people worldwide.  A significant percentage of smokers want to quit but really struggle to do so successfully.

Hypnosis has been used to help countless smokers to quit smoking permanently. The hypnosis treatment aims to address the subconscious motivations for smoking, which often involve coping with boredom, stress, loneliness, or originally a desire to fit in.

By offering alternative behaviors and reinforcing positive thoughts, hypnosis can help you to break free from a nicotine addiction.  A good hypnosis program aims to reinforce a person’s motivation to quit smoking, anticipate any mental blocks that might interfere with their goal, and provide support until the new habit of being a non-smoker is established.

Time to enjoy life as a non smoker?

Most smokers are hooked on a habit they hate. The majority of smokers – an estimated 80 percent – would be happy to never smoke another cigarette again.

We all know that smoking adversely affects your health. If most smokers want to quit, have numerous reasons to quit, and know just how detrimental cigarettes are for their health, then what’s holding them back?

The reason is simple. Nicotine addiction is deeply rooted in the subconscious mind. Stress, mealtime, driving, drinking alcohol (and the list goes on) all subconsciously trigger thoughts that cause cigarette craving.

What if there was a way to “shut off” that voice in your head?  Or at least reframe subconscious thoughts to think negatively about smoking?  With the help of smoking hypnotherapy, the smoker can begin to untangle and quiet the web of subconscious thoughts that keep the addiction in place.

While in the trance-state, your mind is much more open to suggestions. It’s detached from the critical, conscious mind – the part of the mind that’s constantly looking for reasons to stay a smoker.

What does a quit smoking hypnosis program involve?

We know that quitting smoking can be challenging, often we find that by the time someone comes to see a hypnotherapist, they have tried every other method available to stop smoking. They often have a feeling of helplessness after periods where they have managed to enjoy all of the benefits of being a non-smoker, only to find themselves in a situation where they think “just one will be okay”, and then succumbing to the urge only to find themselves back in the trap of the addiction again.

Embracing hypnotherapy requires an open mind, and a commitment to fully participate in the process. During your first visit, you will discuss your smoking habits, motivators and desire for change, and what methods you’ve tried so far. The hypnosis session is then able to be tailored to your specific relationship to smoking, and what it is you are looking forward to enjoying once you are free from the negative impact that smoking has on all areas of your life.

A follow up session is often recommended to check in and make sure that anything that wasn’t presenting itself in the first session as a potential obstacle is able to be cleared, allowing you to move forward confident in your ability to fully enjoy the rest of your life as a non-smoker.
