So, what exactly is depression?
Depression (major depressive disorder or clinical depression) is a
common but serious mood disorder. It can cause severe symptoms
that affect how people feel, think, and handle everyday activities,
such as sleeping, eating, or working. Generally, to receive a medical diagnosis of depression, the symptoms must be present for at least two weeks.
Signs and symptoms of depression include:
- Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood
- Feelings of hopelessness, or pessimism
- Irritability
- Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
- Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities
- Decreased energy or fatigue
- Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions
- Difficulty sleeping, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping
- Appetite and/or weight changes
- Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts
Forms of depression include:
- Persistent depressive disorder (also called dysthymia). A depressed mood that lasts for at least two years.
- Postpartum depression - much more serious than just the “baby blues”
- Seasonal affective disorder - characterised by the onset of depression during the winter months
Risk factors for developing depression:
- Personal or family history of depression
- Major life changes, trauma, or stress
What our hypnosis sessions focus on:
- Helping our client learn to reduce and/or better control feelings of anxiety, stress, and sadness - improving their coping ability
- Helping to address negative behaviours and self-talk
- Installing positive self-talk and affirmations
- Helping the client to establish goals, setting small happiness goals
- In some cases - reducing or eliminating drugs that a person is taking (under a doctors supervision)

After working in the Fitness Industry as a Personal Trainer and Educator for over 15 years, Julie embarked on a journey to develop her skill set so that she could take a more holistic approach to supporting her clients. This included additional qualifications in Hypnotherapy, NLP and Life Coaching, which has allowed her to assist her clients to identify and transform self-defeating behavioural patterns that may have been preventing them from achieving their desired goals.
